Wexham Road One Way System

We the undersigned petition the council to please can the residents of Wexham Road request you make Wexham Road a one way slip Road, as the rush hour during school drop off and pick up times is horrendous. People are driving on the road and not giving way to oncoming traffic during school hours. People start swearing and shouting which makes it hard for residents to pull out of their driveways during these times to drop off and pick up their own children.

Council response

Thank you for raising your concerns with the Council regarding the unacceptable behaviour of drivers, particularly parents picking up their children along Wexham Road.

After careful consideration, we have determined that changing the service road on Wexham Road to a one-way system would not effectively resolve the issue. The primary challenge lies in the behaviour of some parents and instances of illegal parking along the service road.

Introducing a one-way system could have several drawbacks, including:

• Increased traffic congestion: A one-way system might lead to heavier traffic flow in a single direction, resulting in congestion at entry and exit points, especially during peak school pick-up and drop-off times.

• Higher vehicle speeds: One-way systems can sometimes encourage drivers to increase their speed, potentially compromising road safety—particularly in areas near schools where children are present.

After reviewing the collision data for this area, we found no recorded incidents. As a result, we do not see sufficient justification for implementing physical measures at this time. Our priority is to allocate resources to locations with a demonstrated need for safety improvements, especially given our limited budget.

To address this issue, the Council is focusing on the root causes, particularly the behaviour of parents by:

• Increasing monitoring and enforcement: We have notified the local police about this concern and recommend that you report any further issues directly to them. You and your neighbours can contact Thames Valley Police to escalate this matter. To reach Thames Valley Police, please call 01865 841148 or use the following link for more information: Report a road traffic incident | Thames Valley Police

• Engage with the school community: We will work closely with the school to encourage parents to adopt safer and more respectful driving practices through awareness campaigns and reminders.

We appreciate your input and will continue working to improve the situation for everyone using the service road.
